Marketing
Building
a High Traffic Blog
by
Don MacLeod
A
Blog is undoubtedly a great marketing tool in today’s world. Why are they
so successful? Blogs are run by common internet users discussion topics that
they think are worth discussing and in the process talk about their
experiences of using a product of service. So unlike an advertisement
talking a way too much about a product, blogs really convince the reader.
Not to mention the interaction between blog users that helps confirming the
same. But there are tens and thousands of blogs out there. Everyday the
internet adds another thousand odd blogs. So how do you get noticed in this
clutter?
The
best way to start is to discuss ONE topic. We’ve seen many blogs starting
with something in general and then narrowing in on one topic. But this could
take you long and general visitors may find it boring. It is good to zero in
on a subject that interests you and you feel you can attract a lot of
people. The single subject helps you keep the keyword to ONE. It is good to
have one popular keyword and focus on it. Use related keywords to aid the
main keyword for search engine optimization. The success of your blog
depends largely on the opportunity you create by choosing a niche. Don’t
imitate others and hope to compete with them. Once you have chosen a niche,
the work is half done.
The
other half of the work is – how you get traffic moving to your site? In
the beginning your site will not have much traffic (or no traffic at all).
It’s understandable and you should get disappointed with that. It takes
time to build your name and get people to notice and get involved. You must
also make a decision on whether you would spend on advertising. Advertising
is a good way of getting the initial traffic on to your site. Or spread the
word across with friendly comments on similar blogs.
It
is very important that you update your content on a regular basis. Yes you
want new traffic to come to your site, but you should offer something new
for the regular visitors. Bring design changes at regular intervals. Use a
stat counter to study the clicks on your blog. There many free stat counters
available on the net. Study the stats and ascertain where it is coming from.
The regulars are your best bet. What kind of content do they like? Stick to
the ones that give you maximum traffic and start to weed out those that
don’t bring much traffic. Accordingly adjust your marketing to the kind of
people that arrive at your site.
After
this you are ready to push your traffic even further – by using
promotional articles/ebooks/ezines etc. These are great tools for marketing.
If you feel you can attact traffic on the basis of some information, put
them down into your articles/ebook/ezines. Give them away for free at your
website and at your partner websites. Unlike the search engine traffic, you
are actually pulling in a focused traffic. These are the kind of people you
ideally wish to have on your blogs. They can be converted into customers of
your product much faster that the general traffic.
